Libelula
( Spanish for Dragonfly )
After 10 years of building & enjoying Casa Azul, it is time for me to build a another ECV (Expedition Class Vehicle). Your first question might me...Whats wrong with Casa Azul?

My answer is nothing. She is a fantastic truck that has and will continue to serve us well. This is a matter of desire...I just plain old want to build a new truck!

Libelula, the mystery truck

I do not know who made Libby. Sure the VIN # plate, hood, and mud flaps say Tactical Truck Corporation (TTC). But who is Tactical Truck Corporation? After doing an extensive Internet search that turned up fruitless, I have concluded that TTC was probably a consortium of military manufactures that "came together" to compete for the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV / Marines) & (FMTV / Army) contract in the early 1990's. The contract was awarded to Stewart & Stevenson, and my guess is that TTC "closed up shop". The VIN number on Libby is 003!

Here are a few specs on Miss Libelula:
  • Motor: Cummins 6CTA 225 HP turbocharged & inner-cooled
  • Transmission: Allison
  • Axles: Rockwell Portal
  • Tires: Michelin 395/85 R20 XML
  • Wheels: Military Run-Flats
  • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System)
  • Center Mounted Winch with fair leeds for front & rear use.
  • Aluminum Bed with innovative flexible mounting.
  • Fuel Capacity: 50 Gallons
  • Over All Length: 261" (6630mm)
  • Wheelbase: 169.5" (4305mm)
  • Approach Angle: 40 Degrees
  • Departure Angle: 40 Degrees
  • Ramp Over Angle: 146 Degrees
  • Dry Weight: 18,900 Lbs
  • keep an eye on this page to follow the designing & building of Libelula. Trust me when I say that she will be the most kick-ass expedition truck in the Americas!
